Why leaves are a chemistry problem, not a tidiness one
A floating leaf is cosmetic. A sunken, decomposing leaf is doing three things at once: consuming chlorine as it breaks down, staining the floor beneath it if it sits long enough, and releasing phosphate into the water.

The three-tier answer

Most people buy the middle tier and skip the other two, which is backwards. The cheap daily net does more for water quality than anything else on this page, and prevention is the only thing that makes the problem go away rather than recur.
The two numbers that decide a net
- **Frame width** sets how much surface you sweep per pass. 17 to 20 inches is the practical range; wider catches on ladders and skimmer throats.
- **Bag depth** sets how much you hold before you stop to empty. A flat net for the surface, a deep bag for a real drop.
- **Mesh aperture** is the one nobody prints and everybody needs. Coarse mesh passes pollen, fine sand and post-storm dust, so you sweep the pool and it still looks dirty.

When it becomes a robot conversation
At the point where you are vacuuming more than once a week for months. A leaf problem is the most common reason a pool owner starts looking at robotic cleaners, and it is a legitimate one - but check the filter capacity rather than the runtime, because a robot with a small debris canister on a leaf-heavy pool needs emptying mid-cycle.
